Inline Skate Maintenance
Maintain Your Inline Skates Perfectly
By taking care of your inline skates, their lifespan will be prolonged, saving you from having to spend on expensive replacement parts. Fortunately, maintaining inline skates need not be overly complex or time-intensive. There are various tools and accessories designed to keep your skates both looking and functioning like new.
Some examples of inline skate maintenance gear include disinfectant spray to eliminate unpleasant smells, adhesive suitable for metal, and a cleaner for bearings.
What is the Best Cleaning Method for Inline Skates?
Regular cleaning is crucial in the maintenance of inline skates. For the boot, frame, and wheels, you can use a damp cloth, water, and ordinary dish soap. For the liner, ensure you consult your specific model's guidelines for washing temperatures.
Essential components to keep clean include the bearings. For this task, you'll need a specialised bearing cleaner and a cleansing agent. For comprehensive guidance on maintaining your bearings, please refer to our Bearing Cleaning and Lubrication guide.
What is the Process for Removing Bearings from Inline Skates?
To remove bearings, use an Allen key specific for inline skates. Insert the key into the axle while securely holding the wheel to prevent the axle from being stripped during loosening. Once the wheels are off, partially insert your tool towards the centre of the bearing; gently rotate the wheel to gradually pry the bearing and spacer out.
If your wheels contain a long sleeve bearing spacer, roller blade bearing removal tools are equipped with a bearing pusher. Simply insert the tool into the bearing, apply pressure to remove it, while maintaining a firm grip on the wheel.
