Guidelines for Applying Skateboard Griptape
Many skateboarders handle the application of griptape on their skateboards on their own. Approaching this task for the initial time can be challenging and needs a bit of patience. In this tutorial, we'll demonstrate how to affix griptape to a skateboard, explained in just three straightforward steps.
THE THREE ESSENTIAL STEPS TO APPLY SKATEBOARD GRIPTAPE
Tools required: A knife and a skate tool (or a small metal tool)
1. Begin by peeling off the protective backing from the skateboard griptape, and position the adhesive side of the griptape down onto the top of the deck. Subsequently, smooth the griptape from the centre outwards towards the edges. Utilise the protective paper to eliminate any air bubbles.
2. Score the edges of the deck lightly with a tool to establish guidelines for trimming the griptape. Lift the overhanging sections of griptape from the deck edges, and trim the griptape at approximately a 45° angle following the guideline.
3. For a more polished edge on your board, use the excess griptape to sand the sides of the griptape.
