Step-by-Step Instructions: Unboxing and Assembly of a Complete BMX
Begin by removing all packaging materials, ensuring every part is included.
Starting with the assembly:
- Apply grease to the pedal bolts.
- Determine which pedals are left and right.
- Fasten the right pedal by turning it clockwise, securing it with a wrench.
- Fasten the left pedal by turning it counterclockwise, completely securing it with a wrench.
- Loosen the bolts on the stem.
- Detach the faceplate from the stem.
- Add grease to the stem bolts.
- Fit the handlebar.
- Position the faceplate over the stem, centring the knurled section of the handlebar within the stem.
- Tighten the stem bolts in a crisscross pattern—initially, there’s no need to fully tighten the faceplate.
- Loosen the top cap/compression bolt using an Allen key.
- Align the handlebars with the fork.
Now you can attach the front wheel:
- Loosen the nuts on the front axle almost entirely to make room for the fork dropouts.
- Screw the nuts with your fingers until snug.
- Fully tighten the nuts using a wrench.
- Insert the BMX seat into the seat tube; you might want to grease the clamp area to ease future seat post adjustments.
- Secure the seat clamp with an Allen key.
After fitting the seat, adjust the handlebars and fork alignment while seated. This allows for precise adjustments:
- Align the handlebar with the fork, using the front wheel as a guide.
- Tighten the top cap/compression bolt using an Allen key.
- Finish securing the stem in a crisscross pattern, ensuring you always tighten the bolt diagonally opposite the one just tightened.
- Ensure a uniform gap between the stem faceplate and stem—it's crucial to tighten the faceplate evenly.
Check a few last things before heading out:
- Inspect the chain—if it moves more than 2 centimetres, it’s overly loose; adjust by loosening the wheel then pulling it backwards to tension the chain correctly.
- Verify all nuts and bolts are firmly tightened.
- Inflate the tyres to the suggested pressure (PSI number located on the tyre's sidewall).
- Remove the valve cap and attach the pump.
- Inflate the tyre and replace the valve cap.
- Repeat the process for the other wheel.
- You're set to go!
