Why Use a Surfboard Bag?
Surfboard bags shield your boards from potential harm outside the water. Common incidents affecting uncovered boards include dings on the tail or surface, delamination, and dewaxation. Additionally, a reliable surf or SUP bag offers defence against environmental factors, especially UV rays from the sun, and heat that can cause your board's colour to fade over time.
Are There Varieties of Surfboard Bags?
You can choose from three styles of surfboard bags: socks, day bags, and travel bags. Surfboard socks are crafted from soft, lightweight woven fabric, less than two millimetres thick. Day bags are very popular for their lightweight and padded design, ideal for safeguarding your surfboard. Travel bags for surfboards feature ten millimetres of padding, making them suitable for longer journeys.
What Size of Surfboard Bag is Appropriate?
Select a bag that comfortably stores and adequately shields your board. If it’s too small and tight, your board risks dings. Conversely, an overly large bag will be floppy and cumbersome to carry. Before selecting a surfboard bag, measure your board's length, width, and thickness. The bag size should be determined by the board's length, and it is advisable to opt for a bag equal to or slightly bigger (by about two inches) than your board.
Width and thickness will primarily influence the bag style you require. Different boards are tailored to various water sports, and if the compatible bag style is unclear, comparing dimensions can help you decide.
