Balance Bikes
Understanding Balance Bikes
Balance bikes, often referred to as toddler bikes or push bikes, lack pedals and are propelled by the child pushing with their legs. As soon as a child can walk, they are capable of using a balance bike, which is why many models are suitable for children as young as two years old. Balance bikes for kids are intuitive and entertaining, often allowing children to become proficient within just 15 minutes!
Choosing the Right Balance Bike
Your child will be most at ease if the bike allows them to stand with their feet flat on the ground and a slight bend in their knees. To ensure the proper size, measure your child’s inseam using a tape measure. Ideally, the inseam measurement should match the height of the bike seat; this way, when your child wears shoes, the seat will be slightly lower than their inseam.
Balance Bikes Versus Training Wheels
Parents often wonder whether to purchase a balance bike or opt for a pedal bike with stabilisers. Although stabilisers minimise the risk of falling, children may find it challenging to learn balance once they are removed. In contrast, balance bikes effectively develop a child's motor and balance skills, providing more comfort with feet firmly on the ground.
