BMX Brake Parts, BMX Brake Pads & BMX Brake Cables
Essential Information on BMX Brakes
An increasing number of freestyle bikers are utilising brakes to enhance their control while riding. Possessing a brake will not only ensure your safety but also enable you to master new manoeuvres. To keep your BMX brake components in optimal condition, regular maintenance and occasional replacement are essential.
BMX Brake Pads
Also known as brake shoes or brake blocks, BMX brake pads are crucial for halting your wheels. They play a vital role in your braking system, providing the necessary friction to decelerate or stop your bike.
As time progresses, all brake pads wear down, necessitating their replacement. Most brake pads are designed to be compatible with all kinds of rim brakes and feature straightforward one-piece constructions.
Even though a majority of brake pads are threaded, it is important to verify whether you need threaded or non-threaded pads before making a purchase.
BMX Brake Cables
Much like pads, BMX brake cables experience wear over time and will eventually require replacement. As most BMX bikes are equipped with a single rear U-brake, they typically feature a standard 1.5mm inner wire with a full-length outer casing. BMX brake cables can be categorised as either linear or helical. Linear cables are straight wires and are favoured by many BMX enthusiasts. In contrast, helical cables consist of tightly wound spiral wire.
For those with a Gyro brake system, two cables are necessary: the upper and lower. Gyro cables are straightforward to install and can be adapted to various lengths.
