Stunt Scooter Wheels
Wheels Shape Your Scooter Experience
Stunt scooter wheels are the heart of your scooter, fundamentally important in determining its performance. The quality of your ride is significantly influenced by these wheels. Modern scooter wheels typically feature cores made from either nylon or aluminium.
With a variety of wheel designs available, personalising your setup is easy. Wheel cores might come as solid, spoked, hollow, or with perforations. While solid wheels offer robustness, they are heavier, and spoked wheels provide lightness, albeit with increased susceptibility to damage. Hollow wheels offer a lightweight build yet maintain a durable core.
Selecting the Appropriate Stunt Scooter Wheels
Consider the size, hardness, and the maximum wheel diameter that your fork can accommodate when selecting wheels. Stunt scooter wheels come in dimensions of 100 mm, 110 mm, 115 mm, and 120 mm, with 100 mm and 110 mm being the most commonly chosen. Beginners are advised to opt for smaller wheels due to their better manoeuvrability, while larger wheels are better suited for those aiming for speed and an assertive ride.
Wheel hardness is rated using the durometer scale, where a higher number signifies a harder wheel. The typical durometer range for a scooter wheel is between 82A and 88A. Generally, harder wheels facilitate faster riding but at the expense of traction. Conversely, softer wheels offer enhanced grip but wear out more swiftly. Many experienced riders prefer softer wheels for street riding and harder ones for skatepark conditions.
Lifespan of Stunt Scooter Wheels
Trick scooter wheels will inevitably experience wear, regardless of your riding style. There is no specific timeframe for wheel replacement; it could be necessary every few months or every few years. Once you notice the urethane wearing and it affects your riding comfort, it's time to consider a purchase of new wheels.
