Stunt Scooter Brakes & Scooter Fenders
Stunt Scooter Brakes for Ultimate Control
There are two primary varieties of scooter brakes: flex fenders and spring brakes. Additionally, a scooter fender can serve as an alternative to a brake. Some scooters have them pre-fitted, while others do not, requiring you to choose the type that is suited to your stunt scooter. All scooter brakes are positioned on the rear wheel, allowing for easy installation and excellent durability.
Scooter Fenders, Flex Fenders, and Spring Brakes - What Sets Them Apart?
Traditional scooter fenders are crafted to prevent the rear foot from hitting the back wheel. Although they share the same position, they are not actual brakes but rather act as guards between the foot and the wheel. They are especially beneficial in preventing unintended braking when the foot lands too close to the deck's end following an air or tricks like a tail whip. The fender prevents the foot from touching the moving rear wheel, enabling an uninterrupted roll after performing the trick.
Flex fenders are pliable by nature, allowing them to bend when pressed with the rear foot. This can be a helpful technique for reducing speed, but it's crucial to avoid exerting too much pressure to stop the wheel from turning completely, as this causes flat spots and can damage the wheel's performance.
The last braking mechanism mentioned here is the scooter spring brake. It utilises a coil spring to keep the brake distanced from the wheel but can be engaged by foot pressure for braking. This brake type is generally louder than fenders and may need more frequent maintenance.
No matter which stunt scooter brake system you decide upon, ensure that it is both compatible with your deck and suitable for the wheel size you are using. For further details, see Buying Scooter Brakes.
