Finger Skateboards
A Fingerboard Is a Pocket-Sized Skateboard
Fingerboards are miniature skateboards crafted from either wood or plastic, with wooden fingerboards being the preferred choice for many. Much like regular skateboards, fingerboards are equipped with a complete set of components, including grip tape, hardware, two trucks, and four wheels. Typically, finger skateboards measure around 100 mm in length and about 30 mm in width, making them conveniently portable in your pocket.
Certain fingerboards are pre-assembled and ready for tricks from the moment you open the box. Nonetheless, if you're someone who enjoys a technical project, you can find complete sets that require assembly.
Fingerboard Ramps and Rails for a Miniature Skatepark
Constructing a skatepark in the comfort of your home is now simpler than ever with fingerboard rails and ramps. These miniaturised ramps and rails serve as perfect accessories for your tiny skateboards, designed to mimic the shapes and features of full-size skatepark obstacles.
Available are everything from stair sets and iron rails to quarter pipes in a pocket-sized form, allowing you to carry them conveniently inside your backpack. Acquiring a collection of various ramps and rails not only enhances the enjoyment of fingerboarding but also contributes to honing your skills.
The Story Behind Finger Skateboards
Originating in the 1970s, fingerboards were initially crafted as keychains by professional skaters. It wasn't until a homemade fingerboard was showcased in the skateboarding video “Future Primitive” in 1985 that they began gaining traction within the skateboarding community. By the late 1990s, finger skateboards started achieving broader popularity and recognition beyond skateboard enthusiasts.
As time has passed, the quality of fingerboard decks and their components has improved significantly. It is now widely recognised that fingerboards are not merely decorative, but also provide a fantastic way to practise and perform real skateboard tricks.
