Wakesurf Boards
Which Wakesurf Board Should I Purchase?
Your ideal wakesurf board largely depends on your riding preferences. Wakesurf boards come in three categories: skim shape, surf shape, and hybrid boards.
Skim Shape Boards
These boards are characterised by their thin profiles and symmetrical shapes from tip to tail. A thin profile results in reduced volume and a deeper position on the water surface, offering greater control and quick response to movements. This type of board is ideal for those seeking a highly responsive board to perform tricks and manoeuvres.
Surf Shape Boards
Boards in the surf style category feature thicker profiles, wide tails, and larger fins. A thicker profile enhances buoyancy, allowing the board to float higher in the water. This results in smoother movement, and the increased tail surface area generates additional forward drive. Such a board is suited for beginners and individuals aiming for leisurely cruises and controlled, prolonged turns on the water.
Hybrid Boards
These boards strike a balance between the skim and surf shape varieties. If you prefer more propulsion than a skim shape board while enjoying greater manoeuvrability than a surf shape board, consider these boards.
What Size Wakesurf Board Should I Choose?
When acquiring a new wakesurf board, consider its length and volume.
Short wakesurf boards are generally slower and less stable compared to long boards. They are ideal for intermediate to advanced wakesurf riders. Conversely, long boards offer increased speed, are better suited for riding in a straight line, and are perfect for beginners.
The volume of a wakesurf board refers to the space within the board's shell. It affects the board's buoyancy; the higher the volume, the more weight it can support.
