Often referred to as inline hockey or street hockey, Roller Hockey is a dynamic sport that evolved from ice hockey, played on firm, smooth terrains. Players navigate the surface using roller blades and use hockey sticks to aim a hard plastic ball or puck into their opponents’ net. Teams consist of five players, including the goalkeeper, and despite being a contact sport, body checking is not allowed.

Essential Equipment for Roller Hockey

Given the swift nature of street hockey, collisions between players can happen, potentially causing injuries. Consequently, wearing protective gear is compulsory in all sanctioned contests. Essential equipment comprises a helmet, elbow pads, protective gloves, hockey shoulder pads, athletic cup and shin pads as a minimum requirement.

Roller hockey skates (inline hockey skates) are rigid, lightweight, and closely resemble ice hockey skates. They are fitted with small wheels, enabling players to achieve rapid acceleration and execute sharp turns.

The stick, constructed from wood or composite materials, varies in size to suit individual players. Its width must not exceed 5 cm, and it should weigh no more than 500g.

Originating in London, England, professional inline hockey matches take place in a rectangular rink, typically with a wood or cement surface. This playing area is enclosed by a boundary to keep spectators secure and ensure the puck or ball remains in play.
