DIY: Bleach tie dye - craft your own acid wash shirt
We’re all aware that old school holds timeless appeal, so who could resist the classic charm of acid-washed t-shirts? Here's the best part: you can create one on your own with your favourite SkatePro tee.
We spruced up our SkatePro t-shirts to capture the festival vibe, and it went brilliantly, prompting us to produce a DIY video. Have a look and unleash your creativity! The outcomes are absolutely impressive, ensuring you'll be the centre of attention (or at least of your friends).
Items you will need include bleach, rubber gloves, elastic bands, a bucket for rinsing later, and plastic bags to secure your 'workspace'.
The transformation occurs in 5 simple steps:
1. Prepare yourself - cover the area with plastic bags where the bleaching will occur, don the gloves to protect your skin from acid burns, and you're all set.
2. Roll the t-shirt following the pattern you desire (refer to our video for ideas) and secure the design with elastic bands.
3. Apply bleach to the areas where you've fashioned your t-shirt into a pattern and use extra bleach for smaller sections.
4. Allow it to sit for 60 minutes, then rinse it in a water-filled bucket until the water runs clear.
5. Let it dry out! There you have it—your acid-wash SkatePro tee is primed and ready to impress.
Note: For the first wash, remember to do it separately to prevent inadvertently bleaching other garments. Lastly, if you're game to give this a try, remember to work outside so the fumes can disperse.
