How to Assemble a Skateboard
In this guide, SkatePro team rider Hjalte demonstrates the process of assembling a skateboard.
8 Steps to Assemble a Skateboard
Required tools: A knife and a skate tool (9/16” kingpin socket, 1/2” axle nut socket, 3/8” hardware socket, Phillips screwdriver, and an allen wrench)
- Begin by applying the grip tape. Peel off the paper backing from the grip tape to expose the adhesive side, then position it carefully over the deck, ensuring it is centred. Gradually press down the grip tape using the paper you removed earlier.
- Make incisions in each corner of the grip tape and rub the board's edges with a tool to form cutting guidelines for the grip tape. Trim the surplus grip tape along these lines.
- Use a piece of grip tape to rub the sides of the applied grip tape, ensuring a longer-lasting finish around the edges.
- Create openings for the bolts. Use a pointed tool, such as a thin allen key, to pierce through the eight designated spots, then use a Phillips screwdriver to enlarge the holes from the underside of the deck.
- Attach the trucks by inserting the bolts through the freshly made holes, then secure the trucks with nuts, using a skate tool to tighten them into place.
- Fit two bearings into each wheel. Position one bearing at a time in the wheel, pressing it down by hand so that it almost fits completely.
- Secure the wheels onto the trucks using nuts, ensuring they are tightened with a skate tool. Avoid overtightening to prevent damage to the bearings.
- Enjoy your ride!
