Purchasing Axles for Scooters
Axle dimensions on a scooter can differ based on its brand and model. An improperly adjusted axle will cause unwanted noises and may lead to scooter malfunction.
Length
The length of an axle/bolt is considered in mm, excluding its head (w/o head).
This provides you with the precise length measurement.
How to Choose the Appropriate Axle Length?
- A deck/fork that utilises type A axle should not surpass the frame/wall of the deck/fork.
- For a deck/fork that uses a type B axle, it should extend 10 mm beyond the frame/wall of the deck/fork. (Essential for securing the lock nut).
Fitting Pegs
- Pegs necessitate an axle that extends at least 10 mm plus the depth of the peg. A longer type B axle is typically recommended.
- Type A and B can be interchanged.
Head Type
The various head types can be seen below. Ensure you have the correctly sized tool for fastening the axle head.
Diameter
An 8 mm diameter is standard for most scooters, which fits seamlessly with 8 mm bearings and spacers.
Other diameters like 6 mm and 10 mm are available. Off-road scooters often come with 10 mm axles requiring specific bearings.
Thread
The thread density is consistent with a complete set purchase that includes head and screw/nut.
