Race BMX Bikes
What Is BMX Racing?
Race BMX is a thrilling and high-speed sport with the objective of navigating a 300-400 metre track as swiftly as possible. The course is specifically designed for BMX racing, requiring the eight participants to tackle jumps, humps, and sharp turns. It is a single lap circuit, with each race typically lasting under a minute.
While other BMX styles focus more on tricks and stunts, race BMX riders rely on the technique known as pumping. Through this method, riders aim to build momentum by using their arms and legs to propel themselves over jumps.
What Defines a BMX Race Bike?
Race BMX bikes are crafted to achieve high speeds and rapid acceleration, built with racing in mind rather than performing tricks and stunts. In contrast to freestyle bikes, race bikes usually feature thinner tyres as they do not require as much grip.
Moreover, they are recognised as being lighter BMX bikes compared to freestyle ones, as they are constructed from aluminium instead of steel, ensuring a robust and lasting design. It is common for a race BMX bike to have a wheel diameter of 20 inches.
Which BMX Race Bike Size Suits Me?
BMX frames and tyres vary in size, even though a standard wheel diameter exists. The bike size is dependent on the individual model, but there is a range of BMX sizes from Micro-mini to Pro XXL, determined by their frame dimensions.
Your height is the primary factor to take into account. Taller individuals should have a longer top tube (the upper part of the frame).
